Meals on Wheels provides homebound older adults who are no longer able to shop or cook with meals delivered directly to their homes. These meals help older adults to remain living independently in their own homes. In addition to the meals the clients benefit from daily contact with the volunteers that deliver the meals.

The Meals on Wheels program has proven to be extremely beneficial for the health and wellness of older adults. A study of 1,300 Meals on Wheels clients commissioned by SeniorServ, found Meals on Wheels clients:

·      Gained or maintained weight

·      Had fewer hospitalizations and shorter hospital stays

·      Demonstrated an increased and sustained sense of well-being

·      Accessed more supportive services

There has never been a greater need for the Meals on Wheels program. Did you know that starting this year and continuing for the next 20 years, 10,000 people will turn 65 everyday in the U.S.? This tsunami of aging coupled with declining government resources and the severe economic climate means older adults will suffer from malnutrition and go to bed hungry.
